Naples and Pompeii

Travelling through the picturesque Bay of Naples, it’s impossible not to stop in Naples and Pompeii. These two extraordinary places are on the prestigious UNESCO list.

Naples, often called the city of a thousand wonders, is one of the oldest cities in Europe. Its history dates to the ancient Greeks, who founded a colony named Neápolis – „New City”. This rich history makes Naples a treasure chest full of monuments and attractions. Walking through its streets feels like travelling through different eras: from ancient ruins, medieval churches, and Renaissance palaces, to Baroque fountains and modern districts. The city is vibrant, and its residents, known for their hospitality and love of music, create a unique atmosphere.

Pompeii, on the other hand, stands as an extraordinary witness to history and natural disaster. These ancient ruins, engulfed and preserved for millennia in volcanic ash, offer insight into the daily life of ancient Romans. Narrow streets, preserved houses, and frescoes are like windows into the past, showing us what life was like before the great eruption of Vesuvius.

The Isle of Ischia

The island of Ischia, known as the „Green Island” due to its lush vegetation, dates back to antiquity. The first traces of settlement on the island date to around 3500 BC. It was inhabited by Greeks as early as the 8th century BC when it was called Pithekoussai. The island was an important point on trade routes and a centre of worship for the gods. In later centuries, it came under Roman rule, who valued its healing thermal waters.

The island of Ischia is of volcanic origin, which results in numerous hot springs and natural thermal baths. These thermal waters attract tourists from around the world, seeking relaxation and health benefits.

Sorrento

Sorrento is a picturesque town overlooking the Bay of Naples, perfect for a romantic and relaxing vacation. It is famous for its lemons, Limoncello, and beautiful cliffs. Its charming old town is full of cafes and shops selling local products.

The main attractions include Piazza Tasso, Marina Grande, and the gardens of Villa Comunale, which offer views of Mount Vesuvius. It’s best to visit in spring or autumn when there are fewer tourists, and the weather is still mild. Sorrento is also an excellent base for trips to the Amalfi Coast, Pompeii, and even Capri.

Remember, Italy awaits you, and I’ll be here to share my passion and love for this remarkable nation. Buon Viaggio!

Amalfi Coast

The UNESCO-listed Amalfi Coast stuns with dramatic landscapes and winding roads along cliffs. Positano enchants with colourful houses cascading to the sea, Amalfi captivates with its majestic cathedral, and Ravello tempts with Villa Rufolo’s gardens overlooking the blue sea. Each town has its unique charm. Getting around by local buses, ferries, or scooters is the best way to fully enjoy the ambience of this area.
