Nicaragua – Volcanoes, Colonial Cities and Tropical Nature
Nicaragua was one of the biggest travel surprises I have experienced in recent years. Before visiting, I mainly associated the country with volcanoes. Once there, I discovered a land full of contrasts, where colonial cities sit alongside active volcanoes, tropical islands and remarkably rich wildlife.
It was here that I kayaked alongside caimans for the first time, watched monkeys peering into boats on the Isletas de Granada, walked through a burnt forest shaped by volcanic activity and witnessed some of the most beautiful sunsets of the entire trip.
If you are planning a trip to Nicaragua or just looking for inspiration, below are my travel stories and the places that left the strongest impression on me.
What to See in Nicaragua?
During my trip, I visited Ometepe Island, Granada, Isletas de Granada, Laguna Apoyo, Mombacho Volcano, León, Cerro Negro and Somoto Canyon. Each place reveals a different side of Nicaragua, from colonial architecture and local culture to active volcanoes and extraordinary wildlife.
